Enigma - Sadeness

This is among the most beautiful lyrics i have ever read.. & also the most beautiful song i have ever heard.. a very well produced song by Enigma.. if i may ask, who is Sade? isit Hosanna?

    Sade is referring to an infamous French writer, named as Donatien Alphonse François. Known as "Marquis de Sade." Born in 1740, he published erotic writings, that gave rise to the term 'sadism' - enjoyment of cruelty, which first made it into a dictionary in 1834...

    Sade was known as "the freeist spirit to have ever lived by some," and considered evil by others. Hence, in the song lyrics we hear: "Sade, dis-moi, es-tu diabolique ou divin?" (French for, Sade tell me, are you evil or divine?)

    This is also why we hear "Pourquoi le sang pour le plaisir?" (Why pain for pleasure?)
